Tinker Hatfield is responsible for some of Nike’s most iconic offerings, including but not limited to the Air Max 1. And with their newest Air Max silhouette, the brand is paying homage to both the designer and his beloved design.
Dubbed the Air Max Motif, the shoe is effectively a spiritual successor to the Air Max 1, as it borrows many of the same ideas. For example, the mudguard, as well as the general profile, could easily be mistaken for Hatfield’s creation — especially given the right colorway. Hits of suede and mesh, though, begin to subvert said inspiration, establishing a more dynamic, contemporary feel alongside the shifted eye stays. Even the branding follows suit: the heel features spliced embroidery, the tongue a more minimal display of the model’s name, and the Swoosh an opaque outer layer, the latter of which mirrors the sole just underfoot.
For a closer look at the Air Max Motif and its six upcoming colorways, take a peek below. A release date is still TBD, but we should hear more information very soon.
