Nods to Michael Jordan’s oft-lauded career typically start with the athlete’s college days, during which he led the UNC Tar Heels to victory. And whenever Jordan Brand looks back on these times, they rarely ever go beyond the court, preferring to highlight their many classics in the beloved “University Blue.” But with the soon-to-release Air Jordan 1 “Brotherhood,” things take a surprising turn as the colorway pays homage to Omega Psi Phi, the fraternity MJ joined all those years ago.
Fittingly nicknamed, the pair celebrates Omega Psi Phi’s signature purple and gold colors. “University Gold” represents the latter as it dresses the ankle flaps, counter, toe box, and tread, while a “Light Bordeaux” completes the combination by way of the toe cap, eye stays, collar, and Swoosh. White neutrals, then, build out the rest of the base, keeping the pair in line with the blocking of previous colored toe offerings.
