Despite the growing number of naysayers, the New Balance 550 is here to stay. Production numbers haven’t kept up with demand since the Boston-based brand re-introduced the silhouette to its mainline of products, but restocks of some of the model’s original colorways are on the horizon.
According to product pages on NewBalance.com, four inaugural styles are set to return on Tuesday, February 15th. None of the offerings feature the suede and “aged” sole units that’ve become popular with Aimé Leon Dore‘s collaborations (the brand that unearthed the 550 from the archives back in September 2020), but they harken back to 1989 with clean, mostly-two-tone ensembles. “White/Team Red” and “White/Team Royal” colorways are joined by two monochromatic pairs that initially dropped between December 2020 and February 2021. Priced at $110 USD, all four colorways have gone on to fetch higher markups on the after-market. February 15th’s restock, however, should bring some listings’ prices down if enthusiasts of the shoes are unsuccessful at acquiring the shoes at retail. New Balance hasn’t confirmed plans to re-release other styles (including several of its two or three-pair packs), but that may change as its global logistical issues get sorted out.
