Kawhi Leonard’s partnership with New Balance, one that send shockwaves through the basketball footwear industry, started off with a quiet and stoic bang at All-Star Weekend in 2019. The two-time Finals MVP signified a major turning point for the New Balance brand, and the quirky marketing campaign that saw no-frills billboards with straightforward slogans cleansed the palate of hoops fans who might’ve been fatigued by the superficial colors and storylines that dominated industry.
Today, New Balance officially announces the KAWHI II and the new FitWeave Lite, a lightweight woven textile developed by the New Balance Hoops design team to give players adaptive stretch and support where they need it and a lighter weight, customizable fit. The New Money colorway returns for a third time, with currency-themed colors and accents speaking to Kawhi’s desire to build new storylines and legacies in both the sport and the footwear business.
Three years later, the union between Kawhi and New Balance is as authentic as ever. Although Kawhi is not physically ready to lace up the shoes yet, the unveil of the second signature shoe comes at an opportune time as the brand announces a partnership with Jack Harlow. The apparel collection is also designed by The Griggs Brothers, acting creative directors for Kawhi.
The KAWHI II “New Money” officially releases on March 19th, 2022 for $160; see the official images ahead.
