Similar to the 992, the New Balance 2002R saw quite a bit of attention when it was first brought back in 2020. This was due to the drove of collaborations on offer, which enlisted the audience and expertise of names like Salehe Bembury, thisisneverthat, and FDMTL. And even despite the response from the “Protection” pack, the silhouette’s releases gradually slowed to halt.
Things are finally starting to change for the better, though, and we can expect to see the 2002R throughout the Spring season. This recently surfaced “Night Tide” colorway is more than indicative of this, as it’s one of the first pairs to hit the shelves in 2022 thus far.
In terms of its design, the “Night Tide” is not unlike what we’ve seen in the past. Suede builds out most of the construction in a dark purple and light blue, wrapping over top matching mesh inserts. Hits of the secondary “Au Lait,” then, dress over top, adding a coffee-like feel to the “N” logo, midsole, and heel.
